TERRIBLE SIGNAL - "THE WINDOW" LP
FROM DAGGER ZINE:
"You may not have heard the name Vincent Buchanan-Simpson (heretofore known as Vin) but the folks of Perth Australia sure knew him from making a racket with bands like Hideous Sun Demon and Kitchen People (a few others, too). At some point a few years ago he decided to high tail about 3000 miles east and landed in Melbourne, a town with a seemingly much more happening music scene (no disrespect to Perth….hell, Dom Mariani and The Scientists hail from there!). He began a new musical project and voila! Terrible Signal was born! They released a S/T record in 2017 and now comes this the sophomore effort and it’s terrific. Though he’s got a full band for shows The Window was mostly recorded by Vin and you’ll hear some echoes of nearby New Zealand especially on classics cuts like “Half the Person” (think Bird Nest Roys and you’ll be in the ballpark) and while a cut like “Retire” shows a fiercer side with anxiety fueled power pop and “Man , If You Saw Me on the Street Today” is just plain fun! Elsewhere, the minute-and-a-half “Morning” is lovely pop charm as is the fuller, more quickly paced “Switching View” (love that organ). Vin really put his best foot forward on this collection of songs and very glad this landed in my lap. The songs are full of fire and passion and never forget the importance of the songs (lots o’ hooks). Yeah, this is great."
