PUFF DOWN “#2” ZINE / “MIX VOL. 1: MELOFELO” CS
Happy Lunar New Year to you all. It seems like we are globally entering a new phase of the Uncertain Times™️ and we would like to extend our genuine best wishes to everybody out there. There appears to be a lot of exciting things on the horizon but we are still balancing on a knife’s edge, so let’s hope that all such wonderful things can come to fruition in their own time. Melbourne is trying its best to go back to “normal” but once again the state have shown their true colours and made plainly clear their unwillingness, ineptitude, cold heartedness (or any such combination of the three) when it comes to looking out for the people who they supposedly exist to serve. It is frustrating at best and deeply disheartening at worst. So we need to look out for each other. Kindness may be free but it can require effort and energy - two things which may be precious to those of us who are feeling exhausted right now. But it’s all we have. And if we can afford to give that care to each other - that true care - we may be providing so much more than we realise. We may be giving the sparks of hope, the nourishing sense of nurture, the validation that we are human and that we belong, the encouragement that our efforts are of value and the seeds we sow today and tomorrow may one day grow a wonderful, bountiful harvest of pure (alchemical) gold in time to come.
In the spirit of perseverance; Lulus Sonic Disc Club’s big, beautiful news for the day is that Mikey Young’s Curtains LP has finally been born.
After many delays and some sleepless nights, Curtains was delivered; a happy, healthy record weighing in at 140g. Digital streaming on your usual platforms.
We’d like to shout out Sarah Drinan, James Vinciguerra, Nicky Minus, Arms Length Screenprinting, Lew Ro, Anna Savage and Altered States Tapes for making this possible. And a huge, sincere thank you to everyone who preordered this record and the LSD Club Subscribers. Your support and patience has been unbelievable.
With little further ado; use code “CURTAINS” at online checkout for 10% off your entire cart when purchasing Curtains with any other product. Shirts are also available, each one uniquely hand coloured. Stay fly and raise the Curtains.

NEW ARRIVALS
PUFF DOWN “#2” ZINE / “MIX VOL. 1: MELOFELO” CS
Puff Down
Whether you’re an old head or you’re new to the NY state of mind, this is a top quality joint from underground hip hop zine PUFF DOWN. In issue #2 of this old stylin’ and profilin’ mag the editor mines tha mindz of West Philly underground legend DJ Rocksteady (Trauma Center), Russian hip-hop producer LTF and Melbourne DJ Melofelo. Melofelo reflects on A Tribe Called Quest, Wax Museum Records, Debonair P mixes and his Puff Down Vol. 1 mix. The mag also brings to light photographs of Public Enemy in Melbourne in 1992 and an article covering the career of Finsta Bundy. A freshly dusted mixtape by MeloFelo goes hand in hand like a glove and is no doubt one of the best mixes we’ve heard in years. Get your knowledge on and don’t sleep for real (‘cos you know sleep is the cousin of death).
EXEK “ADVERTISE HERE” LP
Castle Face
Hot on the heels of their incredible 'GOOD THING THEY RIPPED UP THE CARPET', EXEK's fifth long player 'ADVERTISE HERE' is truly something to behold.
From the opening bars of 'The Mains' to the coda of 'Hiding a Smile' this is a cinematic experience. A sonic voyage continuing their trajectory into the unknown executed with perfect precision.
All hit and no miss. Uniquely harmonious. Incredible production. Iconic sleeve. Unparalleled lyrical game. An exploration of the format. I'm reluctant to delve into its depths, reveal its secrets and spoil it for the listener.
These abstract musings from John Dwyer might be more appropriate. The bar has been set high. Choose your own adventure.
“Gliding in on the twin engine discordant tones we’ve come to love from EXEK comes their latest transmission Advertise Here.
Beats bumping up thru a flapping spring reverb
Gilded production choices
Stripped bass bubbling in the cauldron
With each pass of the witch’s ladle, words float in the steam over the cacophonous concoction
The coven that croons together slays together
With every layer peeling back on our ear’s tongue we will exclaim “wicked”
Perhaps their strongest effort yet.
The twin engines reappear now, tardy
Guitar and synthesis, rounded edges, worn and ever so slightly fuzzed out
Perfection
This LP strives for new lyrical highs in my opinion
Pop at an arm’s length
Thru a greasy lens
A conversation
A conversation on drugs
A passing comment that sticks
An utterance from the death bed
Reminiscent of Brian Eno, White Fence, PiL, Full Circle, ESG, all things Geoff Barrows, Eroc, Lard Free, and music of free weirdos everywhere
This one is the mossy titled deck of a half submerged shipwreck
A green light in a red room
A lump of clay
The end of the night when you think “perhaps I should have left ages ago”
But it’s too late now…you’re in too deep…might as well have one more dance
This LP is leaping even further out into the unknown for EXEK
A trip indeed
Full of hits with zero diss
and lots of hiss on no near miss”

BURIAL - "ANTIDAWN" LP
Hyperdub
Burial's last couple of records were high energy A sides and interzone ambience on the flip, and this new record broadens the style on the flip to 40 minutes of distant organ chords raked by crackling textural flourishes, pitched vocals howling and swallowed by abyssal drone.
