MAKE OR BREAK - “TO THE WOMEN OF KYNETON” BOOK
In Australia, there are more statues of animals and oversized fruit than there are memorials to (or about) women, and only a tiny fraction of public statues in Australia honour non-fictional, non-royal women: the vast majority honour dead, white men. To The Women of Kyneton attempts to reverse this imbalance.
For ten days in 2018, Make or Break asked female-identifying people in the Victorian town of Kyneton to propose a public artwork, monument or memorial for the town via an anonymous paper survey. The surveys were collected and displayed in a main street shop window, together with a series of live ‘unveiling' performances at secret locations around the town. This 88 page limited edition book documents ‘Unveilings’ and features a compilation of all the surveys submitted, beautifully reproduced alongside a text by the artists and photographs of the project and performances.
88 Pages, softcover, 17.5 x 24.5 cm, edition of 100, Ruin Press (Sydney)
NIK KAMVISSIS - DEAD AT SLUGS' BOOK
Dead At Slug’s is a book of weird and wonderful drawings by Nik Kamvissis, from the group Menstruation Sisters, with an accompanying essay by Francis Plagne. Limited to 200 copies.
Growing up in Western Sydney, Nik Kamvissis tuned into the sounds recorded at Slugs', pouring over LP covers and imagining the venue as a spiritual home, a romantic image of avant-garde bohemia where like minded freaks communed with the 'new thing' until 4'oclock... pictures resulting from these such ideas, way too late, but better late than neverly realised.
MARCUS WHALE - “DEVOTIONALS” BOOK
With thematic forbears in Genet, Cooper and Wojnarowicz, Devotionals looks at multiple forms of desire through both subjective and objective lenses. Lines are crossed, or unseen - and utterances, instant messages, and human senses interact to procure a new experience. Devotionals is all at once subversive, sexy, beautiful and strange. Read it on your pillow, with the lights down low.
Marcus Whale is a musician, writer and artist living in Sydney. This is his first collection of poetry. Devotionals is limited to 100 copies - all numbered and signed by the author.
MP HOPKINS - "UPRIGHT IN THE FIELD" BOOK
Considering Hopkins’ assorted explorations of word and sound relationships across drawing, video, sound recordings, objects and performance Upright in the Field situates itself as poetic log-book of the research undertaken in these ‘laboratory’ based disciplines. Reporting from the front line of the artist’s memory during the act of production itself, Hopkins engages us with notions of toil, the often ‘placelessness’ of place, labour as creative exertion and the often overlooked banality of the art action.
Upright in the Field is limited to 100 copies.

EX FILM - “JAMES R HOSKINS” ZINE
Cincinnati, Ohio 1980 - a heavily armed man in a red hunting jacket takes a TV station hostage at 2am, demanding they broadcast his message of equality for the American underclass. The following day, he is dead by his own hand, leaving behind a video-taped confession of his girlfriend's murder.
The actions of James R. Hoskins divided opinion among the people of Cincinnati. In the weeks and months following Hoskin's actions, letters of support poured into newspapers across America acknowledging the decline of their society and an imbalance of the social strata. A portrait emerges of Hoskins as a frustrated artist, '60s counterculture activist, murderer and drug-addled psychopath. Detailed here across 44 pages are his actions as reported in newspapers and magazines in the weeks, months and years following this event, his desperate message fading as the years pass.
An excerpt from Hoskins' TV interview appears in the classic documentary, The Killing of America which is to be released by Ex Film in 2020.
Susan Cabot had a hard start in life. 8 foster homes left a permanent scar but she used her talented voice and stunning looks to make her way into the lower rungs of Hollywood films, appearing in several major studio features in the 1950s before a short stint in B-movies under Roger Corman.
Tabloid news at the time reported primarily on her appearance and male companions, one of whom was Hussein bin Talal, the King of Jordan. Cabot's final leading role was in The Wasp Woman, a 1959 Corman production which would later gain cult fandom. Shortly after, Cabot would give birth to a son with dwarfism who she would treat with experimental drugs in the Encino mansion in which the two would live out their reclusive lives. In 1986, this house was the scene of a gruesome murder. Enter ninjas, mental illness, matricide and the CIA.
Cabot's life in the media is presented here in this 72 page booklet.

FOUR STRINGS, PHONY PROOF, AND 300 45'S - ADVENTURES FROM ROXY MUSIC, SPARKS, & MILK 'N COOKIES
One of the most interesting 1970s rock figures you just don’t know enough about. As a member of TWO such integral and ground-breaking 70s bands, ROXY MUSIC and SPARKS, not to mention NYC glam/power pop impresarios MILK ’N COOKIES, as well as studio work with the RUNAWAYS and Robert Calvert’s post-Hawkwind solo material, it’s no secret that Maida was in the right place at the right time, more times than we can count. His first book is presented here for the first time, along with his stash of personal UNPUBLISHED/UNSEEN photographs (including meeting Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Mick Jagger in 1969) on his first of many trips to the UK in the late 1960s, as well as many bands he witnessed in their embryonic states just as the monumental shift in music was taking place at the end of the psychedelic era. From his intricately-detailed stories about growing up in Little Italy’s protected confines, and his far-ahead-of-the-curve craze for record “collecting” before that was even a concept, this book takes you on a ride through Martin Scorsese’s mob territory (they grew up only a few blocks apart) and how it’s inescapable soundtrack influenced him deeply, as well as the unbeaten paths deep within the music-obsessed trenches we all love so well.

SOEJIMA TERUTO - "FREE JAZZ IN JAPAN: A PERSONAL HISTORY" BOOK
This book, the only history of free jazz in Japan, has been reprinted many times in Japan and is finally available to readers overseas in English translation. From its earliest stirrings in the 1960s until it reached international recognition in the 1970s and after, free jazz in Japan is a unique music that has found its perfect scribe. Soejima Teruto was a writer who fell in love with a music and devoted his life to it as promoter, critic, label owner, tour organizer, and much more. All new photos in this edition, none used from the original Japanese volume. Introduction by Otomo Yoshihide.
If you like jazz at all, if you like the unique voices of Japan at all, this book will open your ears to many sounds you haven't heard, or heard of, before.
YAMAMOTO SEIICHI - "GINGA" BOOK/CD
In the 1990s, when Boredoms-mania was at its peak, Boredom’s guitarist Yamamoto Seiichi was asked by Guitar Magazine to write a regular column. Soon to become a legendary and bewildering fixture of the magazine, the bulk of this book is the cream of those columns, alongside other writing, photographs, fiction, reminiscences, poetry, and visual art. Includes an exclusive career spanning CD that chops n screws both previously released and unheard material into a new, entirely unique beast.

WAJIMA YUSUKE - "CREATING ENKA: THE SOUL OF JAPAN IN THE POSTWAR ERA" BOOK
This is the prize-winning history of the music known as Enka, one of the dominant forms of postwar popular music, that rearranged everyone's understanding of the history of postwar pop. Love it or hate it, Enka is a necessary background for anyone hoping to understand the music of Japan. With a new introduction by the author and full color printing (unlike the Japanese original), this is a must-have for your collection.
Wajima Yusuke's history of the Japanese popular music that is almost universally considered to be traditional but that is not. A great history not just of the music, but also of the political and social climate of the postwar era, especially the 1950s and 1960s.
KATO DAVID HOPKINS - "RUMORS OF NOIZU: HIJOKAIDAN AND THE ROAD TO 2ND DAMASCUS" BOOK
In his first authored work since the almighty DOKKIRI, Kato David Hopkins dives into the genesis of the notoriously deep and secretive Japanese Noise scene with RUMORS OF NOIZU. Through extensive interviews, and his own knowledge as a first-hand observer, Hopkins provides a roadmap for heretofore totally uncharted territory in the history of extreme sonic exploration. Featuring the likes of Merzbow, Hijokaidan and Hanatarash alongside a bevy of lesser known freaks, Rumors Of Noizu compiles anecdotes and memories alongside flyers and photographs from the time, in an attempt to contextualize what is perhaps the most bewildering music scene in the history of the modern underground. Lulu's is proud to be stocking Rumors of Noizu, alongside the entirety of the Public Bath Press catalogue.
